I encountered a problem with my newly purchased Renault Clio II Ph2 16v -2005 model car. I live in Sweden where the steering wheel is on the left. The car had the DF179 error code and the SRS (airbag) light was on. The error code description was: “Driver side front side sensor circuit, short circuit“.
First, I cut the connector under the seat and soldered the wires together. However, the problem continued. Therefore, I started to think that the issue was caused by a sensor located at the front. I did some research but found no information about the SRS system in the Haynes repair manual.
So I wasn’t sure if the DF179 error pointed to a collision sensor or another sensor. I tried to find which part I should focus on to solve the problem.
Solution Process
I was lucky because I managed to get the Autocom diagnostic device in a short time. Even though I was still at a beginner level, I checked the fault in detail.
In the end, I confirmed definitively that the problem was caused by the driver’s seat sensor. The ohm measurement was 414 instead of the expected 14! This was a clear sign that the sensor was faulty.
I ordered a used new driver seat sensor. After replacing the sensor, the SRS light problem will most likely be completely resolved.
Conclusion
If the SRS airbag light is on and you get the DF179 error code in Renault Clio II vehicles, I recommend directly checking the sensor under the driver’s seat. Especially measuring the resistance values to accurately detect the fault is very critical.
To solve these types of problems:
-
Use the correct diagnostic device,
-
Solder cable connections professionally,
-
Check whether sensors are functioning properly,
-
Replacing faulty parts are the most effective methods.
Reading and interpreting error codes correctly in modern vehicles provides great advantages in terms of time and cost.
