Recently, our Renault Clio started showing a “Card not detected” error. At first, we tried the “blade trick” method that many people recommend. By slightly bending the card, we managed to make it work. This indicated a contact problem on the card’s circuit board (PCB).
Then, I watched many YouTube videos to learn how to repair the solder points on the card. I tried soldering a few times, but unfortunately the problem was not completely resolved. Eventually, even the blade trick stopped working.
After thinking about it, I realized that if some connections on the card were properly soldered, the problem could be easily fixed. However, I wasn’t sure how to find which connection was broken. I researched how to measure it with a multimeter, but the guides I had were for Laguna or Megane models, so they didn’t exactly match the Clio card.
Definitive Solution
Today, the new transponder chip I ordered arrived. I immediately soldered it onto the card, and the result was amazing! The card worked again, and my car started smoothly with the message “card detected”.
This process cost me only €1.30 and saved me from a large expense of about €250.
If you have a similar key card issue with your Renault Clio, the solution is quite simple:
- Carefully open the card,
- Check the PCB for damaged or broken solder joints,
- If necessary, get a new transponder and solder it properly.
I also have a few spare transponders left. If anyone faces the same problem, I can share them for free.
Conclusion
Renault Clio key card problems mostly stem from small soldering issues on the circuit board. Especially when you get a “card not detected” error, instead of immediately buying a new card, try repairing it first. Card repair, transponder replacement, Clio card not working, Renault Clio card error, and Renault key card solutions can save you a significant amount of money.
